What documents do i need to submit to nvc
Recently, the United States Department of State (DOS) issued specific instructions for submitting documents to the National Visa Center (NVC). As some of you may know, the NVC is the branch of the DOS which facilitates the processing of immigrant visas (including K-1/K-3 visas) after they are approved by USCIS.
After reviewing the instructions, I created a single sheet bullet list of the main points for my office to use in processing all cases that are pending with the NVC. According to the DOS, failure to follow these instructions may lead to delays in the processing of your case, or even denials. Thus, if you are submitting documents to the NVC, you would be well advised to take notice of these instructions and follow them closely.
Here is my list:
- Only mail documents to NVC if instructed to do so. Submitting documents by mail when not instructed will delay the processing of your case.
- DO NOT send any ORIGINAL documents to NVC, such as your original birth certificate, passport, or marriage certificate.
- ONLY send COPIES of requested documents to NVC.
- You MUST bring all ORIGINALS documents to your visa interview.
- After you collect the financial evidence and supporting documents, you must submit all required items in ONE package to NVC.
- IF you have been instructed by NVC to physically mail your documents for review, you should mail all of the following together: (1) Document Cover Sheet included in your NVC Welcome Letter; (2) Financial forms and supporting documents; and (3) Photocopies of civil documents with any required translations.
- If you are sending documents for more than one case number, DO NOT mail them in one envelope. Instead, you should mail each set of documentation for each case number separately.
- DO NOT email any documents to NVC unless NVC instructs you to email documents. IF NVC has instructed you to send documents by email, you should scan and save your financial forms and evidence, supporting civil documents, and translations as a PDF file. Then send them to NVCelectronic@state.gov as attachments to an email. Make sure to type your case number in the subject line of the email. You can attach multiple PDFs to a single email, but each PDF cannot be larger than 5MB (megabytes) in size.
- IF you are sending an email to NVC and you have more than one case number, use a different email message for each case.
- DO NOT send documents to NVC in any form of electronic media, such as memory cards, flash drives, or CDs. NVC will not accept them and will send them back to you unopened.
- ALL written inquiries to NVC should be submitted by using the Public Inquiry Form.
